Today all I want to do is announce that I’m taking the day off. I want to unplug my computer, curl up on the couch, and finish reading the Hunger Games. I want to do nothing all day long except rest and escape the chaos of my life recently!
Zach and I have been going hard all summer it seems like with the whirlwind move, trip to Italy, weddings, visiting family and friends, and juggling four jobs between the two of us. My eyes are twitching constantly in their favorite way to tell me they’re tired. I keep forgetting things because my mind is full of SO MUCH!
My life has always been a little on the crazy side when it comes to things to do and people to see. I like the adventure of accomplishing it all. But I would normally come to this point in the game and just have a complete breakdown. I would literally just shut out everything and lament my busy life for awhile.
You know what? I’m not there. One of my biggest lessons during the past 6 months has been how to rely on the Lord for strength even when I am feeling so weak. Rest doesn’t come from sleeping 12 hours a night. Rest comes from being with Jesus in the midst of a crazy life. It comes from finding time to delight in Him throughout the day no matter how little sleep I had last night. That my friends, is my new state of healthiness. Yes, my life is still crazy. I probably should take a day off soon. I probably should get a little more sleep and a little more exercise. But I know those things will come. For now, I have the privilege of living a busy life. I have students to meet with, money to raise for Greek IV, leadership meetings to be planned, annual goals to be written, a house to paint, a move to accomplish, a shower to host, photos to edit, a business to run, friends to check in on, a husband to care for, etc. In all these things I am beyond blessed!
I am looking forward to a season of a little more normalcy coming up after we move, but for now I am content in my secret life lesson that a thankful heart is a rested heart.
Since a blog post isn’t complete with a few pictures, check out these adorable kids I got to photograph last week at First Baptist’s Vacation Bible School.
